Compassion Not Cruelty

Are YOU concerned over governmental actions in recent years that have promoted cruelty, violence, hatred, massive wealth for the few, and promoted Christian Nationalism principles as the only true religion for America? Then read on. There may be a way to parlay your Gospel beliefs into positive actions to share and activate with others in the WNY area.

Compassion Not Cruelty (CNC) is a faith-based, ecumenical movement spawned by the extreme cruelty and insensitivity of the “Alligator Alcatraz” facility in Florida in 2025; continued in the horror of ICE slayings in Minnesota streets in January of 2026; and continually fed by negative governmental reactions to “Welcoming the Stranger (Matt. 25).” The mission of CNC is dedicated to modeling and mobilizing the compassion that Jesus of Nazareth practiced and taught. This community seeks to be a living example of Christ’s love in action.
The values contained in the CNC mission are:
Compassion First: We affirm the dignity of every human being.
Decency for All: We strive to treat everyone with respect and fairness.
Democratic Principles: We honor our nation’s institutions and the Rule of Law.
Nonviolent Love: We draw strength from Christ’s love, recognizing our shared humanity as we work for the common good.

Compassion Not Cruelty partners with Buffalo United Coalition (a group of labor organizations, community partners, activists, researchers, and residents-dedicated to prioritizing people and the planet). The movement has taken part in two “NO KINGS” rallies; held two prayer vigils regarding ICE efforts and immigrant safety; and conducted a letter-writing campaign to Federal Government officials calling on them to govern with compassion not cruelty.

CNC held it’s first open-to-the-public presentation on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at St. Joseph’s University RC Church entitled, Being a Good Neighbor Now, concentrating on the status of local immigration, and two of our Episcopal Deacons attended.

If you, as a Gospel-loving Christian, feel inspired by any of these actions and would like to find out more, check out the information below.
