Bishop Franklin Dedicates Brent Altar

Bishop Franklin dedicated an altar in the baptistry of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Buffalo to the memory and honor of Bishop Charles Henry Brent, during that parish’s Sunday evening Eucharist on April 22.

Bishop Brent was the fourth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.  He served as Bishop from 1918 to 1929.  Prior to serving as Bishop of Western New York he served as Missionary Bishop of the Philippines.  He also served as senior chaplain of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I and was a leading figure in the Ecumenical movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  He was the founder of St. Andrew’s.
